SkillsActive is committed to protecting the interests of learners and our Endorsed Providers alike. In the unlikely event that a learner is unhappy with the training or service they have experienced through any of our Endorsed Providers, we require that in the first instance the learner follows the training provider’s own internal process to resolve the issue. If this does not produce a satisfactory solution for the learner, they can contact us using the process detailed in our Complaints policy.
Did you know that you can link your Twitter to the QTP so that your tweets are displayed on your course information pages? Regular tweeting also optimises your chances of being more visible in a search engine enquiry for your training (ie Google).
To link your Twitter page to your QTP page, you need to go into your Twitter account to find your ‘data widget ID – this can be a little complicated but we have attached a guide that will take you through that process quickly and easily. Download our guide here.
You can also utilise @SkillsActiveQTP and register Twitter page (see your register’s website for the link) by following us, and we can retweet information about your training.
You can also post details of upcoming training on your register’s Facebook page – again, you will find the link by going to the relevant register website. Find your SkillsActive professional register here
The Professional Development team is putting together an interactive webinar to help our Endorsed Providers make the most of the Quality Training Portal – more details will be announced soon so keep your eyes peeled!
Did you know as an Endorsed Provider, you can benefit from a free audit to look at where you can save money on your print, payment, telecoms and power costs!
Just visit our Active Advantage website and get in contact with one of our consultants – for free. They will discuss your current costs and requirements with you and then look for a better value alternative – saving you money and costing you nothing!
The Professional Development Panel is a voluntary advisory body to the Professional Development team, with the remit to monitor the quality, systems and processes for training and training providers that have been given recognition by SkillsActive professional registers. The panel meets quarterly and recently recently discussed an enquiry from a learner regarding the pre-requisite required for kettlebells training – this particular learner had approached two training providers, one of whom required a pre-requisite qualification and one who didn’t, so which is right? Current rules for endorsement require that any endorsed kettlebells training must have a pre-requisite of either a L2 Gym or L2 Exercise to Music qualification and, after a review of the criteria, the panel confirmed that this is unchanged. REPs members undertaking kettlebells training will only be credited with CPD points if they have that pre-requisite in place.
If you have a question that you would like to put to the Professional Development Panel at their next meeting in the New Year, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
LIW took place this year on 30th September to 2nd October at the NEC in Birmingham, and brought together many of the fitness industry’s leading lights looking to promote their businesses both nationally and internationally. Over the three days Tom, Jo, Tad, Jacqui and Emily were in attendance representing the Professional Development team, meeting with Endorsed Providers, making new contacts, and launching our new training solutions and workforce analysis services to both employers and training providers.
Working from a central information area, the team was busy over the whole three days talking to training providers, employers and exhibitors from a range of fitness backgrounds, giving information and advice and answering a whole range of enquiries. Training providers new to the idea of endorsement were able to sign up right away in order to receive further information after the conference, and we are looking forward to working with them all towards gaining endorsement.
“Working with SkillsActive and REPs was great at LIW and I really enjoyed it. I really hope to get the opportunity to work with you again.” Jenny Muhlwa, Managing Director, Belrobics
Talking about the team’s session on the first day meeting with employers to take them through a comprehensive training needs analysis and solution finding exercise, Tom said:
“Our new training solutions were really well received by employers and training providers alike and we look forward to working closely with our partners in order to solve the training needs of the industry.
Whether it’s entry level requirements or professional development at more senior levels, we are confident we can connect employers with our endorsed Lead Providers.
Our work with Lead Providers covers a diverse range of opportunities, and employers can be assured that we can connect them to the right provider.”
If you are an Endorsed Provider and interested in finding out more about becoming a Lead Provider, contact Jo by emailing email@example.com or calling her on 020 7840 1930.
Also present at the show were our colleagues from the SkillsActive exercise and aquatic professionals registers (REPs and RAPs), helping to ensure that the traditional REPs National Convention was a success for all the register members who attended.
Alongside this, a range of SkillsActive Endorsed Providers showed their commitment to professional development by hosting a number of lectures and workshops at the REPs National Convention, as well as fitness challenges on the SkillsActive stand.
NeilSymington Oct 2, 2014:
The Fitness Education Academy was established in 2008, initially with just one assessor, one tutor and one internal verifier. To date they now have a team of around 20 employed and freelance staff dealing with teaching, assessing, internal verification, administration and finance. Annalisa Buchanan and Emma Buchanan are the company owners/directors.
Delivering across Scotland and offering level 2 and level 3 fitness qualifications through CYQ, they also offer endorsed continuing professional development training such as studio combat, circuit training and sports conditioning.
From promoting their endorsed training through REPs early on in their endorsement, Fitness Education Academy moved to a full licence in 201l, enabling them to endorse any new training automatically, a process that has been simplified by the development of the Quality Training Portal.
Annalisa says, “The Quality Training Portal has played a significant part in assisting with the promotion of our courses, and since we registered our bookings have increased enough for us to deliver twice as many courses annually, which has obviously increased revenue. Most employers that we liaise with now refer their staff to the portal if they are looking for other types of training that we as a company do not specialise in, so hopefully other training providers also benefit from this.”
Annalisa was asked why endorsement was important to them, and she explained “As a company we have always tried to encourage REPs registration for candidates who complete qualifications with us and have always made sure that full information on the importance of this is put across to students during their course attendance. Being a company that prides itself on quality training and returning students, endorsement seemed the obvious route for us to go down, to be recognised as a training provider that focuses on keeping standards at their peak.”
Annalisa further explained “As part of our quality standards we also insist that all of our tutors and assessors are REPs registered and once our personal training students are qualified we offer them free advertising on our website providing they are REPs registered. As well as being a training provider we also run our own fitness centre where we only employ REPs registered instructors. It is important therefore that we are endorsed so we can continue to be recognised as a training provider that offers quality courses that are checked by a regulated body with quality standards that need to be met.
Endorsement has allowed us to gain that recognition in the industry as a company with high standards, it has also encouraged us to provide a wider range of fitness courses, in particular to be able to keep up with the changes in the industry and provide the training that fitness professionals are looking to do at that particular time. Being a company that gains most of its business from returning customers it is imperative that we can offer a wide range of CPD courses to these returning customers, which the endorsement allows us to do, therefore bringing in additional business.
We always have new ideas being put forward and will continue to listen to our students and offer what we can when we can. We have a few new courses in the pipeline and will hopefully have these endorsed and available soon.”
