FitPro LIVE brings education to the front

fitpro live

Tom, Hanna, Jacqui and Stafford spent time at FitPro LIVE last month – its second year at the ExCel. Endorsed by SkillsActive, FitPro LIVE was an explosion of colour, music and movement, exposing us to new trends and old friends! It was great as always to catch up with some of our endorsed providers such as SOSA Dance, Burlexercise, Stretchworks, Xpert Pole, Group X Training to name but a few, and to be able to make new connections. Thanks to FitPro for making us so welcome, and you can read their synopsis of the event here:

FitPro LIVE returned to London’s ExCeL on 9 and 10 July, and celebrated its 25th birthday by doing what it does best – delivering world-class education.

Across the two days, FitPro LIVE showcased internationally renowned speakers, the latest in cutting-edge industry products, presented innovative masterclasses, and became the networking hub for 2,400 delegates, to help drive business forward and provide solutions in client retention. TRX, MYZONE™, Lifetime Training UK and Matrix Fitness sponsored FitPro LIVE, with TRX delivering expert coaching in functional training.

The FitPro trainer team presented Tribe Team Training for the first time, and the new MOSSA ViPR™ workout was officially launched. When it came to nutrition, Precision Nutrition’s Brian St. Pierre inspired delegates on ‘The Cost of Getting Lean’ and debunked myths as listeners entered the world of Paleo. Jenny Burrell proved a popular delegate choice as she spoke on postnatal fitness and the mid-life client, while Rodney Corn, co-founder of PTA Global, encouraged us to find our own movement style.

Movement training arrived in full force at FitPro LIVE with presenter Stephen Hughes-Landers turning conventional exercise on its head, while the Parkour Generations team invited delegates to unlock their physical and mental potential by enhancing their natural ability to move over terrain. More than 80 delegates took part in Stephen Hughes-Landers session ‘Master the Muscle Up’ and got hands-on with the most iconic calisthenics move. “It was great to see so many people wanting to find out more about calisthenics and how they could incorporate it into individual or group PT sessions,” Stephen explains. “Bodyweight training is perfect for the freelance PT, and with an understanding of how to teach exercises such as the Muscle Up, it’s possible to challenge clients of all fitness levels.”

Presenter Mike Fitch was back for a second year with his ‘Animal Flow’ session, commenting, “We’ve seen this shift towards skill development, where people want to learn how to move their bodies. To see it now so globally accepted and to see it have such a high presence here at FitPro LIVE is really extraordinary.”

The LIVE Zone offered delegates the opportunity to stay on top of their product offerings with IamRunBox showcasing its design solution, and Exercise, Movement & Dance encouraging delegates to get involved with its #NotsoSecretFlashmob.

Emily Williams, communications manager at Exercise, Movement & Dance, said, “Moving forwards, FitPro LIVE has helped us to establish our place within the fitness industry. We have refreshed our brand, and secured new membership and training.”

FitPro LIVE’s surprise delegate Dame Kelly Holmes attended sessions throughout the day and was seen putting Physical Company’s offerings through its paces. “I had a great visit to FitPro LIVE,” began the double Olympic champion. “It was interesting to see the mix of physical and educational workshops taking place. My charity, the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, works closely with the fitness industry to provide opportunities for young people and retired athletes to gain experience for future work goals. It’s an industry that allows people to be inspired to improve their own fitness as well as motivating others to be the best they can be.”

Holmes visited the convention with FitPro blog writer, Ali Longmate, who commented, “As a British fit pro working in the Middle East, FitPro LIVE is a great way to make sure I can give my clients the best, most up-to-date workouts, tips and nutritional advice. A seriously good fun and invaluable weekend.”

Director of Group X Training Ltd, Jayne Nicholls, who is no stranger to the event, said, “They say you live and learn – I have attended FitPro LIVE for more than 20 years and every year I love the event. I am honoured to present with such a line-up and hope that my content inspires others in the same way that I am inspired right now.”

QTP Tips

Adding YouTube videos

Did you know you can add YouTube videos to your QTP pages? Make your training come to life using our simple instructions to embed your training or promotional videos.

Viewing the front and back ends of the QTP at the same time

Sometimes when working in the ‘back end’ of the QTP to upload some new information for approval, it’s useful to be able to see the ‘front end’ to view what is already appearing on the portal. If you’ve ever been in that situation you will have realised that this isn’t as simple as it sounds, and you in fact have have to log out to do this.

There is a way round it though – you just need to open the QTP in a different browser. So for instance, if you log into the QTP via Google, open the public view of the QTP in Internet Explorer. Then you will be able to view your public pages without having to log out.

Certificates for your successful learners

Once you are endorsed, we will provide you with logos to put on your marketing, website and importantly your achievement certificates for register members (non members must receive a version without the register logo).

Register members will be able to claim the CPD points they have earned through training with you as a SkillsActive endorsed provider by sending in their certificate as proof, so it is important it has the right logos and information.

You can see an example of an achievement certificate here, which for endorsement purposes must show the following essential information:

  • SkillsActive, Endorsed/Lead Provider, CPD Point and Register logos, placed appropriately
  • The full name of the training (this must be the same as it appears in your submission or on the Quality Training Portal)
  • Modules/content covered

Take a look at our example to ensure you have included all the other details as well, but if you want to double-check you’ve got both of your versions right, feel free to email copies to endorsement@skillsactive.com.

Set your deadlines to gain Single Endorsement

SkillsActive helps set a Guinness World Record with British Military Fitness!

BMFsquats2

Tom and Jacqui were delighted to be invited by British Military Fitness to take part in their record attempt for jump squatting on National Outdoor Fitness Day, in order to achieve an entry in the Guinness Book of Records! Jacqui got into the swing of things by sporting her BMF tee-shirt and she and Tom joined the other 370 odd participants all ready for action on Wandsworth Common on 30 May.

After the Guinness World Record was set – a total of 378 people performing the exercise for one minute – the participants were then invited to get involved in The Biggest Ever BMF Session for free, which was also held on the common. The British Military Fitness initiative also raised money for The Royal British Legion, a charity that provides help and welfare to the serving and ex-service British Armed Forces community and their families.

The aim of National Outdoor Fitness Day, which was established by BMF last year, is to increase awareness of the various benefits of exercising outdoors and to encourage people of all ages to get off the sofa and enjoy some physical activity in the fresh air; whether it’s a walk around the park, a bike ride or a group activity such as a British Military Fitness class. Physical activity in the great outdoors has been proven to have many benefits, such as burning up to 30 per cent more calories than doing the same workout indoors. It can also help to reduce anxiety and depression, enhance your mood and improve self-worth and body image.

Harry Sowerby, Founder and Managing Director of British Military Fitness, commented: “We are absolutely delighted that we are able to hold the Guinness World Record for the most people simultaneously doing jump squats for 60 seconds. It has been a fantastic and fun way to celebrate this year’s National Outdoor Fitness Day, whilst still following the BMF ethos of promoting the fantastic benefits of exercising outdoors. It was also great to see support from SkillsActive and ukactive, who came down and helped with the challenge.”

“After sixteen years of BMF, we are still very passionate about what we do and breaking a Guinness World Record, followed by The Biggest Ever BMF Session was a great way to recognise and thank our member community, as well as encourage others to experience the benefits of outdoor group exercise. The initiative was a great success and was incredible to be a part of.”
